In the new areas, houses are built too close to one another and trees can’t be planted. Trees and grass are crucial to decrease the temperature in summer.
Totally agree with this! Green areas reduce heat island effect, and helps communities with health management of climate change effects. However as a stand alone idea it doesn't support our forum question, and suggest it comes as part of introducing housing energy efficiency (and general) standards. At a local level, I think it would be helpful for mapping of lots, and their density be available to public. E.g. Harold park development should be perfect example of med density housing dev.
Shade from trees has been proven to reduce temperatures. Grass is not so effective but nice to sit on under the tree. Trees in private gardens can complement street planting and create green corridors for both human and wildlife to enjoy - and especially for birds to thrive in.
I dont think the focus needs to be around gaps between houses and moreso on allowing more space on streets for trees and plants. More terrace and semi detached houses that have more space out front for greenery are what I think would be a better ideal
