Belguim, Energy Performance Certificates

Belguim, Energy Performance Certificates

In 2021, the final energy consumption in Belgium was 4.9% lower than its 2005 level. In Belgium, homes are rated for energy efficiency using Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), with scores ranging from A+ (most efficient) to F (least efficient). You need an EPC when you sell or rent a property, a property's energy rating is increasingly important for home buyers/renters. Could EPCs encourage more government incentives such as lower land tax on rentals, discounted stamp duty on sales?

Points

This is difficult to do well, but we need to try. VEET (Victorian Energy Efficiency Target) is something that we have experience with. There was a lot of profiteering with low quality product. What can we learn from this to develop something like EPCs. Regulation and clear guidelines so that homeowners (buyers/sellers) benefit and not speculators.

Agree, we should also be ensuring new builds are being held to this energy efficiency standard, and with this good ventilation is a must!
