Introduce a $1000 additional rego charge for cars weighing over 2 tonnes. These ridiculously sized vehicles are completely absurd for our suburban streets and polluting our residential areas. Also causing traffic jams and road deaths
my understanding is that about 1/3 of EVs are over 2 tonnes. Also unnecessarily large for urban usage. I am also aware that EVs get a free ride by not paying the fuel excise and the looming problem of battery disposal is still not resolved. We need to pay for everyones ideas somehow, so why not tax the largest vehicles?
Not sure if the additional rego charge is the best way to go about it, but I agree we definitely need to do something to curb the rise of these vehicles. Perhaps a better way would be to remove their exemption from the luxury car tax (it was this exemption that led to the sudden rise in such vehicles).
There're many reasons to tax these monsters off the road.
Are you aware most of the full electric vehicles, weigh at least 2 tonnes or more?
Choice for needs should be paramount
