Up-vote for Yes, Down-vote for No.
Yes it’s the one technology available at present that ticks all the boxes for a bright and prosperous future for our country. No emissions, low fuel requirements, hence minimal mining activity and subsequent environmental impact, substantially lower cost per kWh when you compare power generation plant life of 60+ years and it doesn’t require back up from diesel/gas generators, smaller footprint for transmission lines,.
Minimal waste that under modern nuclear technology is used until it is depleted, look at what is used for modern day armour on heavy military vehicles, it’s depleted uranium because of it’s density it helps to protect against armour piercing weapons. What’s left is held in containment systems that have a lesser environmental impact than waste solar panels, wind turbine blades or lithium batteries, all of which take 100 to 200 million years to breakdown.
It's just too late. We needed to reduce our emissions yesterday and can't justify burning more fossil fuels until nuclear comes on, when our livestock is literally drowning (hundreds of cattle in Qld right now). And then there are the thousands of climate refugees whom we will need to re-settle as our Pacific neighbours' countries, like Kiribati and Tuvalu, are rapidly being submerged by rising sea levels.
Nuclear is good to add to the mix but it shouldnt be at the expense of renewables and it certainly shouldnt be the current priority
